McMaster seeks parents of children who are 15-23 months of age

McMaster University Health Sciences, Department of Family Medicine and the Offord Centre for Child Studies are conducting a research study called: Concurrent Validation of the NDDS-R (Nipissing District Developmental Screening-Revised) and the Rourke Baby Record in a Primary Care Setting:  Evaluation of Two Tools for Developmental Screening at the 18 month Well Baby Visit.

They are looking for parents with children between 15 and 23 months of age to help look at whether the survey and checklist used in the enhanced 18-month Well Baby visit are useful to assess healthy development in children. This 18-month Well Baby visit has recently been introduced by the Ontario government to enhance the care of Ontario’s Children.

Parents are asked to attend the enhanced 18-month Well Baby visit at their doctor’s office and complete the NDDS-R at this visit. Parents will also be asked to complete an appointment with a trained research assistant and this appointment will be scheduled at a time that works best for the parent and child. At the appointment, the research assistant uses different toys, games and books to look at different aspects of child development (language and motor development, etc). They are testing the survey by comparing its results to those from the appointment. There are day, evening and weekend appointment times, and the appointments can be done within parent homes or at different participating Early Years Centres across the greater Hamilton area. Parents will receive a gift certificate to compensate them for their time.

If your child is between 15 and 23 months of age and you are interested in being a part of this study please contact McMaster University at 905-525-9140, ext 28529.
